THE WASHING MACHINE saga – after four days, clearing out, fixing things and sweating a lot, we excitedly went to try the washing machine. It looked great – washer dryer, full size etc. We loaded it up, used Mr google to translate the Spanish instructions…. Set the cycle, pressed start ,CLUCK the door latch locks… great. Then nothing…TRY AGAIN. Clunk then nothing.
Time to ring Marcus, ( the skipper of the yacht when it was out on charter). Ah, yes, says Marcus- we tried to get it fixed but it has never worked. :(
John and I are of the same ethos- if it doesn’t work, get it off the boat. In the case of Joline that would be a lot of stuff – we felt we were up for the challenge and could fix quiet a bit, but in that first week….

Fridge – not working properly and very old, OFF it went
Fridge Freezer – a huge appliance, the freezer worked well but it was too big and the fridge part did not work well at all. = OFF
Washing/Dryer – not working – OFF
Moving the washing machine required our combined brains, halyards through hatches, a plank, yoga mats, cardboard, a lot of measuring and alot of re thinking. It was very heavy and only just fitted up the stairs, but it took all afternoon to figured out how on earth to lift, slide and position it.
Getting a new one in was a lot easier. Getting it delivered by the local shop was a lot of fun, thanks to the local shop owner when usde his own car but we were worried that he heavy smoking assistant was going to have a heart attack lifting it.
Now we smile every time the washing machine goes beyond CLUNK and starts whooshing as water cycles in…– its also a very quiet member of the Joline team.
