PRINTER …grh grh grh…
On Saorsa ( my last boat), I had an Epson blue tooth printer, which worked a treat every time. Scanning, printing – all by Bluetooth or cable, no worries. Unfortuntaly thats in New Zealand
We needed a colour printer –
TAKE 1 – The local shop which supplied the washing machine provied one for – 79 Euros… easy. ( or so we thought), After a night of frustration with a Hewitt Packet model we discoeverd things are not what they used to be. Why do you need to update drivers, why can they not be just plug in and go?? HP need a router to update. We have no router. We have bluetoth, wireless, 4 G. We took it back to the shop and they kindly gave us a refund.
TAKE 2 – Carrfour – Epson printer – it even looked like my old one. Excited and needing to print off some customs documentation, this one we checked we could work via 4G. Yes,... all was going well until we discusovered it had previously been used and the ribbon looked damaged and it certainly would not print – not even a test page!!!. We were departing the next morning and had no time to faff about, so left it by the rubbish heap.
TAKE 3 – In Gibralter high street we met a lovely Indian gentlemen who offered us a CANNON 5135. He also offered to set it all up for us, install drivers etc etc. Now this was progress, we even got it back to the boat and it worked perfectly. It continues to work well for John who doesn’t have Windows on his machine. I on the other hand have Windows 11.
Two days later it will not print due to “spooling issues”. Thanks to Mr Google I find the fix.. it works for three days. Now we are at Sea and it totally refuses to work with my computer – except the test page. So the saga continues. There are not many things I find frustrating but the printer issue goes beyond SPB.
RECOMMENDATION – Printer designers, KISS please and make a printer that works without internet PLEASE.
